Apple has officially launched Apple Pay in the Philippines. The service lets users make secure contactless payments in stores, within apps, and on websites with supported Apple devices. The rollout starts with support from GoTyme Bank, Metrobank, UnionBank, and China Bank.
Eligible cardholders can add supported debit and credit cards to the Wallet app on their iPhone. They can also use Apple Pay on Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro where supported. Users only need to double-click the side button, authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode, then hold their device near a contactless payment terminal to complete a purchase.
How to Setup?
Setting up Apple Pay takes only a few steps. On an iPhone, open the Wallet app and tap the "+" button to add a card. Users can scan their card or enter the details manually, then complete the verification process required by their bank. On Apple Watch, cards can be added through the Watch app on a paired iPhone. Users can also add cards through the Wallet settings on compatible iPad and Mac models. You can also use Apple Pay in your MacBooks while checking out in Shopee.
Partner Merchants
Apple Pay works anywhere contactless payments are accepted. At launch, customers can use the service at Abenson, Anko, Ayala Malls, Ayala Malls Cinemas, Beyond the Box, Coach, Digimap, Foot Locker, Globe, HOKA, Hollister, Jollibee, Lush, Power Mac Center, Rustan's, SaladStop!, Shake Shack, Smart, The Loop, The Matcha Tokyo, The Movie Snackbar, The Underbelly, and WalterMart Supermarket. The service also supports payments in participating apps and websites, including foodpanda, Jollibee, Rustan's, and Shopee.
The service does not store a user's card number on the device or on its servers. Instead, each card receives a unique Device Account Number that is stored in the Secure Element, a dedicated security chip built into Apple devices. Every purchase uses a one-time dynamic security code, which helps protect payment information. Apple does not track users' purchases or keep transaction data that can identify where they shop or what they buy.
GoTyme Bank supports eligible Visa debit cards at launch. Metrobank, UnionBank, and China Bank also support eligible Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards. Users can add their cards through the Wallet app or from their bank's mobile app if Apple Pay integration is available. Apple said more banks are expected to support the service over time.
Apple Pay is compatible with iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later, iPhone 8 and later, Apple Watch Series 3 and later, supported iPad models, Macs with Touch ID, and Apple Vision Pro. Devices must run compatible versions of iOS, watchOS, iPadOS, visionOS, or macOS.
The Philippines joins more than 90 countries and regions where Apple Pay is available. The launch expands digital payment options in the country as more merchants continue to adopt contactless payments and more consumers choose cashless transactions.
