Apple has entered the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone. The device starts at Php 159,990 in the Philippines and features a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR inner display, an A20 Pro chip, and a dual 48MP Fusion camera system.
The iPhone Duo uses a foldable design with an outer display and a larger inner screen. Apple says the 7.6-inch inner display is the largest iPhone display yet, with a nano-texture finish and up to 3,000 nits peak brightness. The design folds into a more compact form for easier handling.
Apple also built new software features around the foldable form factor. The iPhone Duo can switch between different orientations for multitasking, video playback, hands-free calls, and other supported iOS features. These functions put the larger inner display to better use instead of treating it as a bigger version of a regular iPhone.
The camera system gets several features designed around the two-screen setup. Duo Preview lets users see a preview on the outer display while someone else takes a photo or records a video with the main cameras. The system also adds Duo FaceTime features that take advantage of the larger display and foldable design.
Apple built the phone with a Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover. The inner display has a scratch-resistant coating, while Ceramic Shield protects the front and back. The device also carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
Powering the iPhone Duo is Apple’s A20 Pro chip with a vapor-cooled design. It also uses a dual-battery system that Apple says provides all-day power. The thermal system helps keep performance in check during demanding workloads, while the foldable design gives users more screen real estate for apps and games.
For photography, the phone has a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera. It also has a 12MP Center Stage front camera and an under-display FaceTime camera. Apple adds features such as Smart Take, Duo Preview, Kid Cue, and Duo FaceTime to take advantage of the foldable form factor.
The iPhone Duo also gets Apple Intelligence features through the latest iOS platform. New capabilities include smarter assistance across apps, enhanced visual intelligence, and the next-generation Siri AI. Apple says Siri AI can understand what appears on the screen, use personal context across apps, and access current information from the web.
The new Apple Intelligence features also bring more AI tools to everyday tasks. Users can get improved writing assistance, smarter suggestions in apps, and enhanced image-generation features. Apple designed the latest Apple Foundation Models to run on-device and through Private Cloud Compute for supported tasks.
The iPhone Duo comes in Night Sky and Star White. Apple lists the base unit at Php 159,990 in the Philippines. The fruit company is yet to announce local availability.
