YouTube introduces new tools for Filipino teens and families as the platform strengthens digital safety, screen time control, and age-appropriate content options.

The video-sharing platform rolls out the Shorts Timer to give parents firm control over how long their teens access short-form videos. A parent can set the timer to zero during study hours or extend it to 60 minutes during free periods. The platform will soon allow a permanent zero limit for families that want strict restrictions.
Parents with supervised accounts also gain customized Bedtime and Break reminders that help ensure teens follow healthier viewing habits. These additions build on YouTube’s previous efforts to support structured screen management for younger users.
YouTube prepares a simpler account setup process for shared devices. Parents can create accounts for their children and shift between profiles inside the mobile app through a quick menu. This setup tailors each profile’s content controls and recommendations based on age.
YouTube also introduces new principles for creators that aim to elevate high-quality and age-appropriate content for teens. Global experts, including the American Psychological Association and the Digital Wellness Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital, helped develop the guidelines. These principles boost visibility for educational channels such as Khan Academy, CrashCourse, and TED-Ed.
“At YouTube, we believe in protecting children within the digital world, not from the digital world,” said Jennifer Flannery O’Connor, Vice President of Product Management at YouTube. “We’ve spent over a decade building tailored protections for our youngest viewers based on what parents and experts tell us they need: better controls, age-appropriate content, and simple account management.”
YouTube states its goal to evolve with Filipino families and maintain a safe and inspiring space for teens as they explore content online.
