Pros and Cons:

  • Compact minimalist design
  • Good bass and voice output
  • Decent Battery life
  • Great value for money

Design and Build

The SoundPEATS TrueAir 2 features a "stem design" for a TWS. The earpods remind me of the Huawei FreeBuds 3, only that this pair comes with a matte finish and a slightly larger stem. The earbuds are light and does not support eartips with its open fit design. Generally, this type of design offers comfort for longer hours of usage which seems to be true with the SoundPEATS TrueAir 2.

Each earbud has a SoundPEATS logo on the back of its main body with an LED indicator below it. The other side of the stem has some magnetic contacts for charging and for securing the buds within the charging case.

Speaking of the charging case, it also features a matte finish. It's a thin square box with rounded corners at the bottom to facilitate good grip. There's a USB-C port at the right side of the case; and if you're looking for a reset button, you wont find it here.

I love the overall feel of the case. It's light and could be slipped easily in pockets. It is minimalist and handy too, and the charging case is not a chore to carry around.

Fit and Function

Just like what I said before, the earbuds are very comfortable on the ears. Most of the time, I forget that that I'm actually wearing them. On top of that, the logo section of the earbuds is touch sensitive. You can manage to go through controls by simple tap gestures.

For example, tapping once on either side will crank the volume up (right earbud) and down (left earbud). Tapping twice will invoke Play/Pause or answer calls and tapping thrice will pull up the mic function. In my case, the latter called for Siri since I used it with an iPhone.

The touch panel also supports press and hold gestures. Pressing and holding for 1.5s will skip tracks or reject calls. It could be a little overwhelming to remember if you're using the TrueAir 2 for the first time but you'll get the hang of it. The touch panel is also quick to respond with light touches, but to the point that it could be over-sensitive at times.

It would have been great if the SoundPEATS TrueAir 2 also comes with a companion app for customizations and device management.

Performance and Sound Quality

The TWS earbuds connect thru Bluetooth 5.0 with AptX codec. It is also rated with IPX4 which means that it could withstand light rain, splashes, and dust. It is powered by a Qualcomm QCC3040 chip, thus it takes advantage of Qualcomm's TrueWireless Mirroring technology.

The SoundPeats TrueAir 2 is a perfect companion in taking video calls or voice calls in general. It can filter background noise very well, especially if you're outside with lots of ambient noise. Likewise, it is great in streaming content. Videos from YouTube sounded clear and warm, even fuller in most occasions. On top of that, it is easy to shift between an Android phone or an iPhone.

In terms of overall sound quality, the SoundPEATS TrueAir 2 is a winner. It has a very decent sound stage with warm tones and fuller bass. Vocals also register to be crisp and clear. The quality is something we expected in a sub-Php 3K price, but to be honest, it's better than most of its peers in this segment.

Battery Life

The SoundPEATS TrueAir 2 promises to have a total of 25 hours of playtime (with charging case), with 5 hours of battery life for each earbud. A fully charged case can charge the buds four times. In our real-time test, we got more or less the same as what it states on paper.

Moreover, charging the device is also a breeze. It took us about 90 minutes to fully charge the TWS from zero to 100 percent.

The Wrap

Those looking for an affordable and quality Apple AirPods alternative could consider the SoundPEATS TrueAir 2. In its Php 2,590 price, it offers great value with its minimalist design, compact footprint, good sound quality, and more.

The TrueAir 2 is also excellent in voice management. With its ability to filter ambient noise, you'll never go wrong with this TWS if you're buying a pair for voice calls, Zoom calls, or even video streaming.
