Samsung Galaxy Fold is now official as it made an appearance in the company's latest Unboxed event. This made the device the first foldable smartphone/tablet in the world. The Samsung Galaxy Fold highlights the 7.3-inch Infinity Flex display which technically folds into a compact smartphone-like device with a cover display.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold
Design and Construction
Samsung Galaxy Fold has opened a new category - as the company says, it's a "Smartphone and Tablet folded into one." With this ingenious technology, users can now do things a smartphone can do; and at the same time, it unfolds many features a tablet is capable of - all of these done in one powerful device.
To achieve this, Samsung has to do breakthroughs of folding displays in an intuitive motion. This display enforces a polymer layer and comes with a thinner profile than regular smartphone screen. This new display engineering makes the Galaxy Fold flexible and tough.
Samsung also employs a new hinging mechanism that opens and closes with ease. The hinge is made up of interlocking gears to make the folding and unfolding more sophisticated. The Galaxy Fold has its fingerprint scanner on the side where the thumb usually rests.
There are also two batteries inside the Galaxy Fold and components were evenly distributed to have a great form factor and weight management. The device comes with a Space Silver, Martian Green, Cosmos Black, and Astro Blue finish. You can find the Samsung branding at the hinge.
Software, Experience
The Samsung Galaxy Fold boots with a unique user interface which mainly focuses on the many ways users get the most out of their device. The Fold features the Multi-Active Window which allows you to open up to three active apps simultaneously on the main display. It also supports App Continuity, a feature that offers seamless transitions between the cover and the main displays. As the device folds and unfolds, your apps will show up where you left off.
Hardware
The Galaxy Fold is powered by a next-generation AP chipset and 12GB of RAM for PC-like performance. It also features the Wireless PowerShare like on the Galaxy S10, wherein users can charge another device while charging itself, simultaneously.
The Dynamic AMOLED display is crisp and clear as ever. Plus, the device's camera system is also on the top end of the spectrum.
You can pair the Galaxy Fold with the second-generation Samsung DeX to even boost your productivity.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold is coming to the United States this April. There's no word yet on its Philippine availability.
