The Meizu m1 note has been making a huge splash in the Philippines despite its very limited availability in the market. This well put-together device is a threat to everything “flagship” with its premium build and performance-oriented chipset. Luckily, we have purchased a blue variant of the device over a Novo 7 Tech store for PhP 8,599 for us to check the buzz in this handheld. So we won’t keep this any longer, this is our official Meizu m1 note Unboxing and First Impressions.
The
phablet has been released internationally in December of last year; and since
then, it has gathered a significant amount of attention. The fact that it took several
pages from the iPhone 5c in terms of both hardware and software makes you love
and hate it at the same time.

Unboxing: What’s in Meizu m1 note’s box?
Locally,
the box of the Meizu m1 note comes with an A/C adapter, USB chord for charging
and data transfer and SIM tray ejector which is designed with “Flyme” logo. Don’t
expect the package to have a headphone since the local asking price is
affordable for a handset of this caliber.
Meizu m1 note design
and construction
Once
you get to touch the handset, you will be instantly fascinated by its build –
glossy plastic back and polycarbonate. An enlarged iPhone 5c, I must say, sans
the Apple and iPhone branding. However, the back of the m1 note is more “curvy”
to the point that it could have a close-to-pyramid panel. One thing that’s
worth noting with the back is its ability to attract fingerprint and smudges.
The 13-megapixel Samsung sensor and dual-tone LED flash are housed in the upper
portion of the back.
Flipping
the device you’ll see the 5.5-inch IGZO screen from Sharp. I love the thin
bezel at the edge of the display; it makes the device more appealing to the
eyes. Wait until you turn it on, the stunning full HD panel with 403 ppi will
satisfy your craving for a premium experience. The capacitive home button is
alone at its usual place below the screen; the front-facing shooter and light
sensor are on the top of the screen.
Now
we go to the bottom of the phone, Meizu m1 note’s ports and holes are, again,
patterned to the iPhone 5c. The microUSD port is in between the screws; speaker
holes are flushed to the left and the microphone is on the right. However, the
audio jack has been transferred on the top side to accompany the sleep/wake (power
button) and the noise-cancelling microphone.
The
SIM tray is placed on the right side. Power (sleep wake) button is absent on
this side, which is odd knowing that most of the 5.5-inchers have it on this spot
for ergonomics purposes. However, Meizu fixes the issue on the software front
like double-tap-to-wake and other gesture controls. More of which will be discussed
in our actual review.
Initial Impressions
- I think Meizu has invested a lot in copying the iPhone 5c in terms of design and build. However, it has exaggerated some of the points like having a heavily curved back which could not help users get a good grip of the device.
- The battery is non-removable, which is fine in this price standpoint.
- Power or Sleep/Wake button was placed at the top side of the device which is hard to reach for one-handed use.
- Great display
- Premium build
