Vivo Y71 Unboxing, First Impressions, Sample Photos, Antutu Benchmark

Vivo Y71 is the latest budget offering from the company.  It strikes a balance between performance and affordability due to the handset's capable specs and practical ₱8,990 asking price. The Vivo Y71 also offers flagship-ish FullView display like its more powerful cousins from the V series. We all know that the sub-Php 10K space is a very lucrative segment for midrange phones, and Vivo wanted to have a bigger share on the pie with this latest offering. Here's our unboxing and first impressions with sample photos of the Vivo Y71.

The Vivo Y71 is on the bigger side with its 6-inch HD+ display. In an earshot, the handset looks like the previously released Vivo V7+ due to its 18:9 aspect ratio and nearly zero bezels.

Display, Design

The Vivo Y71 comes with a smaller footprint in contrast to what's expected to a 6-inch smartphone. The curved back panel is always a welcome feature so it could nestle effortlessly on the hands. The back is made of plastic but Vivo polished the handset with a faux-metal finish. This means that it's very easy on the eyes.

The Vivo Y71's back panel is void of fingerprint sensor. You only have the Face Unlock on top of the traditional Android PIN and Pattern unlock functions. There's the Vivo branding on the upper middle portion of the panel together with the 13MP camera and LED flash positioned on the upper left.

Rounding up the sides, the Vivo Y71 has its dedicated SIM tray on the left side, while the volume rocker and the power button are housed on the right side. The bottom side is a home for the microUSB port, the microphone, 3.5-mm headphone jack, and the speaker grill.

Vivo Y71's display packs an HD+ panel with 1440 x 720p resolution. In turn, this frames 268 ppi pixel density. The screen is not at par with the current Vivo V9 but it could definitely give you a great time in watching movies and playing games.

Hardware, Camera, Antutu Benchmark

The Vivo Y71 packs a decent power underneath. It is powered by a Snapdragon 425 System-On-a-Chip which features four cores of the power efficient Cortex-A53 CPU running at 1.4GHz and the Adreno 308 GPU. It's an aging processor but still it's the best choice for this price range. The Vivo Y71 could run daily tasks with ease, though we noticed few lags in between.

Our Antutu Benchmark gave it a score of 44,965.

The Vivo Y71 is an ideal device for moderate users who do casual games and basic tasks on their handset. The unit we are using has 3GB of RAM for better multitasking, but the Vivo Y71 also comes with a 2-gigabyte RAM variant with only Php 1K price difference.

There's a 13MP camera sensor which makes a significant hardware bump on the back panel. On the other hand, the front comes with 5MP selfie shooter for your social media selfies.

Vivo Y71 Unboxing Out of the Box Items

Inside the Vivo Y71's box are the basic stuff like earphones, SIM ejector tool, microUSB cable, manuals, and user guides. There's no case included but you can easily purchase one since it has the same dimensions as the Vivo V7+.

The Wrap

The Vivo Y71 3GB is priced at ₱8,990 while you can get the 2GB version at 7,990. From the outside, the handset has a striking resemblance to the Vivo V7+ sans the fingerprint sensor. The face unlock is also a fast alternative to unlock the handset which made me forget about the lack of fingerprint scanner.

Overall performance in our initial usage is smooth. Camera app is fast in taking photos while display is clear and vivid for watching videos and reading text.

We will get back to you with our review of the Vivo Y71. Stay tuned!
