The ASUS ZenFone 5Q is the company's attempt to capture the mid-range selfie space. It is defined by its four cameras which makes it, according to ASUS, the "world's first true quad-camera" in a smartphone. On paper, this claim could be right since it packs a combination of 16MP shooter and a 120-degree wide-angle sensor at the back. On the front, it comes with a combination of 20MP camera and another 120-degree wide-angle sensor.

Design, Display

The Zenfone 5Q traditionally looks like a handset that came from ASUS' melting pot - it touts a fusion of industrial design with the iconic concentric circles pattern found in several parts of the handset. The ZenFone 5Q boasts a metal frame with a plastic back that is polished to look like glass. The design is a lovechild of the Zenfone 4 Selfie and 2016's Zenfone 3.

The front panel is treated with 2.5D glass which makes swiping on the screen smoother towards the edge. This 168-gram handset is on the light side; it's also thin at 7.8 mm. You can slip it easily on your pockets due to its subtle depth. My only complaint is that it feels boxy on the hands. Thus, one-handed usage is a challenge, especially for someone who has small hands like me.

The display is stunningly good. The ASUS ZenFone 5Q comes with a 6-inch FHD+ IPS LCD panel with 18:9 aspect ratio. It has a 75.95% screen-to-body ratio and 1080 x 2160p resolution. The display is great for content consumption due to its great viewing angles and good color accuracy.

On the front panel, you'll see the 20MP front facing camera paired with 8MP 120-degree wide-angle shooter in the same center line as the earpiece and the front-facing LED flash.

The left side has the SIM tray with dedicated slots while the right side is a home to the volume rocker and the power button. The latter has a concentric circle design on its surface to provide additional texture.

Hardware

Underneath the ASUS ZenFone 5Q ticks the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 which is a pretty standard chipset for mid-range devices. It features an octa-core CPU and Adreno 508 GPU. The ZF5Q also packs 4GB of RAM which makes our initial use of the handset smoother in every way.

ASUS ZenFone 5Q Antutu Benchmark Score

In our Antutu Benchmark, the ASUS ZenFone 5Q scores 86872 which is entirely great for a smartphone that touts a Snapdragon 630 chipset.

Camera

Selfies from the ZenFone 5Q's 20MP front camera are great, especially when I used the Beautification suite. Outputs come with good saturation and exposure. Likewise, the 16MP rear camera also does a great job in capturing details with good color accuracy and contrast. Check out our initial sample photos below.
