The POCO F series has been a popular choice for smartphone enthusiasts because of its flagship-killer DNA. The formula has always been pretty straightforward: give users powerful hardware, a fast display, and gaming-focused features without going overboard on the price. The POCO F9 Pro takes that familiar approach and adds more to the overall package, particularly in the camera, display, battery, and audio departments.

On paper, this is a loaded device. You get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series, a dedicated VisionBoost D8 graphics chipset, a 6.59-inch 185Hz AMOLED display, a 6,330 mAh silicon-carbon battery, 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and a camera setup that finally looks serious beyond the usual main-sensor flex. In the camera front, the 200MP main camera gets OIS, while the 50MP telephoto camera brings 2.5x optical zoom and OIS.
That combination puts the POCO F9 Pro in a sweet spot for users who want a phone that can handle pretty much everything thrown at it. The question is simple: does all that hardware translate into a compelling everyday experience? Let's find out in this review.

Design
The POCO F9 Pro takes a more polished approach to its design compared to the model it is replacing. It has a flat 6.59-inch display, a metal frame, and a glass back. The camera deco also gets an integrated flat metal design with a partial CD feature.

We have the White colorway for our review and I love how clean its understated look is. There's also an Aurora Green finish which deserves a special mention. It has a full-panel luminous design that gives the phone some personality. And of course, the Black which is still a classic favorite among fans.
Though I would say that the phone looks like last year's POCO F8 Pro, I can spot the difference because the F9 Pro has a disc-like trimming opposite the cameras. At 8.79mm thick and 206g, the F9 Pro has some heft to it, but it's just substantial enough not to burden me in my daily usage. It is also hardly surprising given the large battery inside. The phone still keeps the footprint reasonable for a performance-focused smartphone.
The button and port layout is pretty straightforward. The top houses one of the speakers, while the right side has the volume rocker and power button. Down below, you get the USB-C port, another speaker grille, and the SIM tray. Everything is within easy reach, and I like that POCO keeps the layout clean without adding unnecessary buttons or ports. And we can also see antenna bands all over the sides.

Durability also gets a welcome boost. Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protects the display, while the phone carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. An ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor sits underneath the screen which is fast in picking up biometrics. Speaking of the screen, I also appreciate the thin bezels on the front panel. In short, POCO did not cut corners on the physical package. The design is quite good for a smartphone in this price.
Display
The 6.59-inch AMOLED display is arguably one of the most interesting parts of the POCO F9 Pro. It has a 2510 × 1156 resolution, which POCO positions as 1.5K. The panel can reach up to 185Hz, although the highest refresh modes depend on supported games. The WildBoost Engine supports 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, 144Hz, 165Hz, and 185Hz modes.

For regular scrolling, the phone defaults to120Hz refresh rate. As usual, this already feels buttery smooth. The jump toward 165Hz and 185Hz matters more in supported games, where high frame rates can make controls feel snappier.
POCO also uses its HyperRGB technology on the display. Instead of the usual Pentile layout found on many AMOLED screens, it uses a full RGB subpixel layout. In day-to-day use, this helps keep things looking sharp even at its 1.5K resolution. You’ll notice it more when reading small text, browsing websites, checking photos, or playing games where small icons and on-screen details can easily look soft.

Brightness is another thing you’ll notice right away, especially when you use the phone outdoors. The display can reach 2,200 nits in high-brightness mode, while its peak brightness can go as high as 4,500 nits. In simpler terms, the screen has plenty of headroom when you need extra brightness under harsh lighting. It also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, so compatible movies and videos can look more punchy and detailed. The display supports 68 billion colors and DC dimming as well, which should help with smoother color transitions and more comfortable viewing.
I think this display fits every use-case scenario I had with the phone. Netflix, YouTube, gaming, and plain old doomscrolling, the display has all the right ingredients.
Performance
This is where the POCO F9 Pro really puts its cards on the table. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series uses a third-generation 3nm process, a 2+6 all-big-core CPU design, and Qualcomm's third-generation Oryon CPU architecture. Maximum CPU clock speed reaches up to 4.6GHz which is already a serious horsepower.

POCO adds the VisionBoost D8 dedicated graphics chipset to the mix. Its job goes beyond raw performance. It can enable Smart Frame Rate of up to 185FPS in selected games and up to 165FPS in additional supported titles. It can also handle 1.5K super resolution, Game HDR, and dual-core visual enhancement.
The interesting part comes from combining these technologies. Call of Duty: Mobile is one of the games I tested on the POCO F9 Pro, and I was able to set the display to 185 Hz in the phone’s display settings and 165 FPS in the CODM app settings.


In actual gameplay, the higher refresh rate made camera movements and swipes feel noticeably smoother, especially during quick turns and close-range gunfights. The 480 Hz touch sampling rate also helped the controls feel responsive, while the instant touch sampling can reach up to 4800Hz in supported scenarios.
I also spent time with Genshin Impact in 60Hz and Mobile Legends in 165Hz refresh rates, and both games ran smoothly in my experience. Surprisingly, I didn’t encounter any noticeable frame drops during my sessions, while the touchscreen remained responsive without any ghost touches.


The interesting part comes from combining these technologies. There are supported titles can run at 1.5K resolution alongside 185FPS or 165FPS Smart Frame Rate. That is where the POCO F9 Pro is considered a proper gaming machine.
Likewise, the WildBoost Engine also handles touch response, visuals, and audio. Touch sampling reaches 480Hz, while instant touch sampling can hit 4800Hz. Those numbers sound wild on a spec sheet, but their real value comes during fast-paced games where every tap and swipe counts.

For the benchmarks, the POCO F9 Pro posted an AnTuTu score of 3,169,875, with 971,149 for CPU, 1,038,412 for GPU, 480,451 for memory, and 679,863 for UX. On Geekbench 7, it scored 1,933 in single-core and 8,569 in multi-core, while the GPU tests returned 12,340 (OpenCL) and 18,168 (Vulkan) in separate runs.
During the AnTuTu test, the phone’s temperature rose from 32.6°C to 47.4°C, a 14.8°C increase, while battery level dropped by 7%. These numbers back up what I experienced during actual use, with the F9 Pro showing plenty of horsepower for demanding apps and games.

Connectivity also gets special attention. POCO equipped the F9 Pro with seven dedicated gaming antennas across the device. The layout aims to reduce signal blockage during landscape gaming. For mobile gamers, POCO clearly means business.
Multimedia x Speakers
Audio often takes a back seat on performance-focused phones, but I found myself appreciating the F9 Pro’s speakers more when watching Netflix and YouTube. It uses dual symmetrical 1115F stereo speakers with a top-firing design, so dialogue stays clear while music and sound effects have more presence.

I also noticed that the soundstage feels wider when watching movies, which makes the experience less flat than what you’d typically get from a phone speaker setup. POCO worked with Bose on the sound tuning, with 15-level calibration across the low, mid, and high frequencies. This partnership is definitely reflected on how good the phone sounds.


There are also Dynamic and Balanced sound profiles, so I’d go with Dynamic for movies and music when I want a bit more punch, while Balanced works better for videos where clear vocals matter.
Cameras
The camera system is another area where the POCO F9 Pro looks more versatile. The main camera uses a 200MP HP5 sensor with a 1/1.56-inch sensor size, 0.5μm native pixels, and optical image stabilization. There is also a dedicated 200MP mode.

In my sample shots, the main camera produced detailed photos with good colors and plenty of room for cropping, especially in well-lit scenes. Fine details such as textures, leaves, and building details remained sharp without looking overly processed. The camera also handled exposure well in most of my shots, with decent highlight control when scenes had a mix of bright and darker areas.
The bigger story for me, though, is the 50MP 2.5x floating telephoto camera. It uses a JN5 sensor with a 60mm equivalent focal length, OIS, and EIS. The floating telephoto design supports 10cm telephoto macro photography. It also provides 5x lossless in-sensor zoom at a 120mm optical-level focal length, while AI Ultra Zoom can reach up to 60x.






The telephoto camera gives the F9 Pro a lot more flexibility for portraits, close-ups, and distant subjects. An 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera and a 32MP front camera complete the setup. The front camera is also great for selfies, and its Smart Aperture helps keep group shots in frame, so you can fit more people into the photo without having to squeeze everyone together. However, the wide-angle shots could use some improvement when compared to the main and telephoto sensors. Check out these ultra-wide angle shots:


In low-light conditions, the POCO F9 Pro’s 200MP main camera with its 1/1.56-inch HP5 sensor and OIS gives it a solid foundation for night photography. The larger sensor and OIS helped the camera pull in more light while keeping handheld shots reasonably steady. I also found the main camera more dependable for everyday shooting because it can handle everything from quick snaps to more detailed shots when you want to crop or reframe the image later.



POCO includes several imaging tricks on top of the hardware. Live Cinematography supports 4K Ultra-HD Live Moments, while Portrait Live, Freestyle Live, and Video to Live Moment add more creative options. The AI Creativity Assistant also includes AI Image Enhancement, AI Beautify, and AI Reflection Removal. The camera setup looks much more complete than the usual performance-phone formula.
Battery
The POCO F9 Pro packs a 6,330 mAh typical battery with 16% silicon-carbon content and an energy density of 824Wh/L. That silicon-carbon battery technology is particularly important here. It helps POCO fit a larger capacity into a phone that still measures under 9mm thick.

The battery easily last a whole day of usage and could extend to the 2nd day in moderate usage. In our gaming test, a 15-minute Mobile Legends game in High settings only consumes 6% of the battery.

Charging is also equally aggressive. You get 100W wired HyperCharge and 50W wireless HyperCharge. The phone also supports up to 27W wired reverse charging and up to 22.5W wireless reverse charging. This gives the F9 Pro plenty of flexibility. You can top it up quickly before heading out, charge wirelessly at your desk, or use the phone as a power source for compatible accessories. For heavy users, a large battery paired with flagship silicon should be music to the ears.
Software
The phone runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3.0 out of the box. It also supports Xiaomi Offline Communication and eSIM. These features may not grab the headlines like 185Hz or 100W charging, but they matter for the overall ownership experience.

The inclusion of eSIM is especially useful for users who travel often. Xiaomi Offline Communication also adds another layer of connectivity functionality. One of my favorite features is the seamless file transfer from the POCO F9 Pro to my Macbook via Xiaomi Share.

Hyper AI also gets a spot in the F9 Pro’s feature set, particularly on the camera side. The AI tools include Image Enhancement, Beautify, and Reflection Removal, which are useful for those quick edits when you don’t want to open a separate photo-editing app. Reflection Removal, for example, can come in handy when you shoot through glass or take photos around reflective surfaces.
Image Enhancement is more of a quick-and-easy option when a photo needs a little cleanup before you post it. I find these AI features more practical because they fit into things I actually do with my phone instead of feeling like features added just for the sake of having “AI” in the spec sheet.
Verdict
The POCO F9 Pro delivers on what it sets out to do. It is first and foremost a performance-focused smartphone, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series, VisionBoost D8, WildBoost Engine, and 185Hz display give it the hardware to back that up. My gaming sessions with Call of Duty: Mobile, Genshin Impact, and Mobile Legends also showed that it can handle demanding games smoothly, with responsive controls and no noticeable ghost touches or frame drops in my experience.

What makes the F9 Pro more interesting is that it doesn’t stop at gaming. The 200MP main camera and 50MP telephoto give it a more versatile camera setup, while the 6,330 mAh battery, 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, Bose-tuned stereo speakers, bright AMOLED display, and IP68 protection make it a capable everyday phone.
So, who should get the POCO F9 Pro? I’d recommend it to gamers, heavy smartphone users, and anyone who wants flagship-level performance without giving up cameras, entertainment, battery capacity, and build quality. At Php 49,999 SRP, however, the value proposition is a different story. The 12GB+256GB model is available at Php 33,999 during the Early Bird period, while the 12GB+512GB version drops to Php 35,999.

At those Early Bird prices, yes, the POCO F9 Pro is an easy recommendation. You get serious performance, a 185Hz AMOLED display, capable cameras, a big battery, fast wired and wireless charging, stereo speakers, and IP68 protection in one package. At the regular SRP, it's still one of the best options considering the higher price hikes in memory and storage. But if you can get the POCO F9 Pro during the Early Bird promo, this is one POCO F series phone that appeals for both gamers and power users.
