Apple has introduced the M5 chip which marks its next major advancement in AI and graphics performance for Apple silicon. Built on third-generation 3-nanometer technology, the M5 features a 10-core GPU with Neural Accelerators in every core, a faster 16-core Neural Engine, and increased memory bandwidth. The new chip powers the latest 14-inch MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro, all now available for pre-order.

The M5’s next-generation GPU architecture enables over four times the peak GPU compute performance of the M4, with each of its 10 cores integrating a Neural Accelerator. The GPU also introduces Apple’s third-generation ray tracing, providing up to 45 percent higher graphics performance and smoother visuals for 3D applications and gaming. Apple said the M5 delivers the world’s fastest performance core with a 10-core CPU composed of six efficiency cores and four performance cores, which offers up to 15 percent faster multithreaded performance than the M4.

Combined with a big increase in graphics performance, the world’s fastest CPU core, a faster Neural Engine, and even higher unified memory bandwidth, M5 brings far more performance and capabilities to MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro.”
The new chip also includes a faster 16-core Neural Engine that works alongside the Neural Accelerators in the CPU and GPU to enhance AI-driven features. Apple added that the M5 improves the performance of Apple Intelligence tools and enables faster on-device AI processing. With up to 153GB/s of unified memory bandwidth (a nearly 30 percent increase over M4), the M5 allows larger AI models to run directly on the device and supports demanding creative and productivity workflows.

Apple also mentioned that the power efficiency of the M5 contributes to its goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its products and operations by 2030. The chip helps reduce the total energy consumption of the MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro throughout their lifecycle.
