MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday, July 25, announced that MRT-3 now supports cashless fare payments using debit and credit cards, as well as QR codes generated through e-wallets.

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon led the launch event at the Ayala Station, where he showed how commuters can use the GCash app to generate a QR code for scanning at the gate. He emphasized that the fare remains the same across all payment methods. “Walang dagdag sa pasahe dito. 'Yung sistema, kung ano ang ikakaltas sa GCash n’yo, sa credit card n’yo, sa debit card n’yo, pareho lang kung bumili kayo ng single journey ticket,” Dizon said.
The same cashless system will soon be implemented in LRT-1 and LRT-2, with support from GCash and RCBC. According to Dizon, the payment system is the first in the world to support both NFC and QR code scanning in one terminal.
The DOTr listed participating banks and e-wallets currently integrated with the MRT-3’s cashless setup. These include GCash (Visa and QR Code), Landbank (Mastercard and Visa), BPI (Visa), BDO (Mastercard and Visa), HSBC (Visa), GOTyme (Visa), Union Bank (Visa), RCBC (Mastercard and Visa), Metrobank (Mastercard), Security Bank (Mastercard), Maya (Visa), and Chinabank (Mastercard).
