realme C55 Unboxing, First Impressions

The realme C55 is the long-awaited refresh for the popular C-series. For the fans of affordable-yet-capable devices, the realme C55 could be a very ideal smartphone purchase. The phone will be released this second half of April, and we are glad to share our unboxing and initial review of this device.

realme C55 Unboxing Experience

From a design perspective, the realme C55 is arguably one of the best-looking C series phones ever released. However, in contrast to the way it looks, the phone still gets a generic packaging - a yellow box with black accents.

Opening the lid, you'll be greeted by the same old packet-style box which houses the transparent case and other inserts like the SIM eject tool and some documentations. You'll see the main unit cushioned on a paper divider, and below, we have the 33W SuperVOOC power adapter and the USB-C cable. These items are just as what I've expected in this segment.

Moving on to the interesting part, the realme C55 is such a joy look at. We have the Rainforest colorway which comes close to a teal hue. Likewise, the backing outlines unique patterns which resembles precipitation of water, especially when seen on different angles. In my experience with the handset, I could say that it basically negates fingerprints. You'll also have the option to choose the Rainy Night and Sunflower colors.

The phone is entirely made of plastic, but it offers great handling and feel. It's a boxy phone due to its wide dimensions but realme compensated this by chamfering the sides. You'll see the ports and buttons in their no-nonsense placements - the power button and volume rocker on the right, the SIM tray on the left, and the microphone, 3.5-mm audio jack, speaker grille, and the USB-C port at the bottom.

The C55 frames a whopping 6.72-inch FHD+ IPS display with 90Hz refresh rate. It is, by far, the largest phone among the C-series releases. The panel offers good contrast and sharpness while maintaining color accuracy. The screen is also bright enough if you plan to use it outdoors.

There's a hole-punch cutout situated on the upper middle of the display. This serves as a provision for the 8MP selfie camera. At the back, the phone boasts a 64MP main shooter with PDAF, and a 2MP depth sensor. These sensors are framed with a bigger-than-the-usual module which could be very imposing for a handset in this segment.

realme C55 also highlights the software-based "Mini Capsule" feature which is obviously torn from Apple's Dynamic Island playbook. This realme UI 4.0 displays relevant information about your phone like battery percentage, notifications, and more, in a pill-like interface covering the area where your selfie camera is located. This is an initial release so expect for more developments in future iterations.

Lastly, the phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio G88 processor which is a popular chip in the entry-level gaming segment. Our unit packs 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There's also a juicy 5000 mAh battery which supports 33-watt fast charging.

Conclusion

The realme C55 is pushing the boundaries of the C-series smartphones. As early as now, I could tell that this phone is set to be a top choice among consumers. I could be wrong, but only time can tell. Stay tuned for the price reveal and our full review of the realme C55.
