The realme 8 Pro is a huge leap for the company in terms of camera capability. It boasts the whopping 108MP primary sensor that promises a lot in terms of optics. On top of that, the realme 8 Pro is also a speedster when it comes to charging with its 50-watt fast charging capability. This new realme smartphone is shaping up to be a fantastic offering in its supposed segment. Join us as we unbox the realme 8 Pro. We'll also give you our initial impressions and some sample photos right after the jump.

realme 8 Pro Unboxing

We have the Infinite Blue variant of the realme 8 Pro as our review unit. The smartphone is still packaged with the iconic yellow box with black accents. Opening the box, we'll be greeted by the familiar "welcome to the realme family" prompter. It is printed in a tear-away box that contains the SIM ejector tool, silicone case, user guide, and warranty information. Under this small packet, we have the main unit. Underneath, there are compartments for the 50-watt SuperDart charger and USB-C cable.

Design Impressions

If you're not a fan of the Infinite Blue, you can get the Infinite Black. My personal choice would be the blue color as I find it particularly attractive. Looking at the back panel, we have realme's "DARE TO LEAP" transparently-embossed tagline. This occupies a significant amount of space on the right section of the backing - about one-third of the whole area. I find this design cue a bold move for the brand. Of course, we have a less conspicuous realme branding on the opposite side. It is also embossed in transparency.

At the top left side, we have the protruding camera module. It houses the four sensors which add up to even more protrusion at the back. The bottom part of the module is transparent where the LED flash is situated. Across it, on the right side, is the 108MP Quad Camera label. realme is giving spotlight to this feature, making the camera one of the realme 8 Pro's marquee features.

The Infinite Blue backing is a gradient of blue. It starts with stronger dark tone from the bottom; and as it progresses to the top, the blue tone becomes lighter.

The whopping 108MP Camera

Going back to the rear camera, the realme 8 Pro equips a quad camera system. It features a 108MP, f/1.9, 26mm main sensor with PDAF, together with 8MP, f/2.3 ultrawide, 2MP, f/2.4 macro, and 2MP, f/2.4 depth sensors. Its native camera app comes with modes like Night (Pro/AI), 108M, Starry Mode, Dual-view video, AI Mixed Portrait, Pro Expert, Ultra Macro, and more.

Our initial shots with the handset is such a worthwhile experience. We think that this camera could compete in the flagship department. While we are testing more photos, here are some of the stills that we took.

Display, Buttons, and Battery

On the front panel, we have a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display. The display has a 20:9 aspect ratio, and comes with a 2.5D curved glass screen and gentle rounded corners design. I like the fact that realme chose the punch hole design for its 16 MP, f/2.5 lens. I find those notch displays in other phones less appealing.

The design of the display gives off an immersive screen with tiny top and side bezels. However, the chin is sizable compared to other bezels. The display features 180Hz Touch Sampling rate. Having a high touch sampling rate means the phone is quick to respond to your touch input. In effect, it offers better user experience. It also integrates an in-display fingerprint scanner which is snappy in unlocking the screen.

The realme 8 Pro's frame and body are made of quality plastic material. On the left side, we have the sim card slots. It houses two nano SIMs, and comes with a dedicated slot for microSDXC card. On the right side, we have the volume and power buttons. There's also the secondary microphone on the top. The 3.5mm audio jack, primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and the loudspeaker grills are on the bottom.

The smartphone packs a 4500 mAh battery with 50W SuperDart fast charging. The company claims it charges the phone from 0 to 50% in just 17 minutes and to 100% in 47 minutes.

The Wrap

The realme 8 Pro shapes up to be a solid smartphone. As of this writing, we still have no local pricing; let's just hope we get a sweet spot in terms of the price. And if that would be the case, I think realme 8 Pro could be a potential killer in its segment.
