DITO x Nokia: 5G Rollout

Nokia said in a statement last Wednesday, May 26, that it will supply the needed equipment for the telco's strategy in building a 5G network throughout the Philippines.

“To achieve the desired network performance, Nokia is providing equipment from its comprehensive massive MIMO, multi-band, Single RAN AirScale portfolio to build the Radio Access Network (RAN) for the 5G infrastructure across Mindanao,” Nokia added.

With Nokia, DITO expects to have 5G services with superior speeds, capacity, and lower latencies. Nokia also added that it could do these breakthroughs while reducing costs using an energy-efficient network.

DITO commenced operations in the Philippines last March in the country's southern regions of Visayas and Mindanao. The third telco started servicing the country's National Capital Region earlier this month. This tallies to more than 100 cities and municipalities in the country.

According to the telco, it also plans to introduce fixed broadband services to home consumers in the next two years. DITO is currently capable of servicing almost 38% of the Philippine population.

It commits to 84% of the population with 55mpbs speed by the end of its fifth year of operations.
