Apple's latest and greatest smartphone is
finally here. So let's not keep you waiting, here's everything you need to know
about the iPhone X.
The iPhone X
Design
The 10th generation iPhone comes with a glass backing to
enable wireless charging. Both front and back panels are reinforced with a
steel frame making a stunning 5.8-inch edge-to-edge OLED display. Apple claims that it has the best screen-to-body ratio in any smartphone available right now. Just like the 5.8-inch Galaxy S8 wherein the screen
increased in size, the iPhone X still comes with a smaller footprint which enables easy one-handed use.
Display
The 5.8-inch (2436×1125p) OLED display is coined by the
company as the Super Retina Display. It covers almost all of the front panel
leaving only a visor notch at the top. This notch is a home to the cutting-edge
sensors. It also packs a punchy 458 ppi pixel density which Apple claims to be
the best resolution in an iPhone.
Apple's 3D Touch with Taptic Engine (Haptic Feedback) is
also integrated in the display.
The iPhone X also supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology which could work closely with Dolby Vision and HDR10.
Face ID
It seems like Apple failed to integrate the Touch ID in the
display, so the iPhone X sacked the fingerprint sensor and settled with Face
ID. This is one of the best features in the iPhone X. Apple's facial
recognition is dubbed to be the most advanced tech in the market. It's way ahead of
the nearest competition. This new
breed of biometric authentication is done through the TrueDepth camera found in
the notch visor which is loaded with 3D facial recognition sensors.
Thus, the Face ID will do all the previous job of the Touch
ID - Apple Pay payments, iTunes/App Store purchase authentication, auto-fill
passwords and device unlocking. Apple also claims that the data collected by the
Face ID will be stored locally.
Animoji
A fun new way to use the Face ID is by sending Animojis.
This allows you to send 3D animated Emojis. These Emojis are the same set that
we have come to love and use. What's even more impressive is that the Animojis mimic user's facial expressions from the True Depth camera.
A11 Bionic Processor with M11 co-processor
The A11 Bionic is the latest custom-made Apple processor
which is said to be 90% faster in terms of processing performance and 70%
graphical performance. It also houses an A11 Bionic Neutral Engine which is a
custom-built chip which will handle AI workloads.
Camera
The iSight camera will still be the biggest feature of an
iPhone, especially for photography fans. The vertically laid-out dual camera
system comes with 12MP iSight Duo camera. Both have OIS, improved lowlight
performance and AR features. The primary lens comes with f/1.8 while the
telephoto lens has f/2.4 aperture.
You can now shoot videos in 1080p at 240 fps, 4K at 24fps
and 4K at 60 fps. The latter frame rate is of DSLR quality, so this means that
Vloggers will be delighted with this added video recording capability.
The Portrait Mode that we have come to love with the iPhone
7 Plus now comes with several lighting support -
Countour Light, Natural Light, Stage Light, Stage Light Mono and Studio Light.
The TrueDepth camera found on the front is a 7MP wide-angle
affair which also takes Portrait selfies and records 1080p video. It also comes
with Contour Light, Natural Light, Stage Light, Stage Light Mono, and Studio
Light modes.
Battery, Wireless Charging and Fast Charging
Apple finally intros a wireless charging feature in iPhone.
This comes with Qi standards just like any other popular wireless pads from
other flagship phones. This also means that you'll separately buy a charging pad which
could also charge an Apple Watch and an AirPods at the same time. Charging using the Lightning
port is now faster with the inclusion of a USB-C Wall Charger.
In terms of battery, Apple also claims that the iPhone X has
the best battery performance among all the iPhone models since it comes with
10-nm A11 Bionic chip, OLED display and greater optimizations.
Waterproof IP68
The waterproofing has also been improved from last year's
IP67 (iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus). It's now rated IP68.

The iPhone X is available at 64GB and 256GB configurations.
You also have the option to choose between Silver and Space Gray hues. Both have black front
panel.
