John
Sculley, former Apple CEO, enters the fierce smartphone competition with Obi
Worldphone. The company spawned two introductory handsets – the Obi Worldphone
SF1 and Obi Worldphone SJ1.5. These smartphones are slated to be low-cost yet
premium designed Android handsets intended for emerging markets.
Obi Wordphone SF1: premium design, great value
The Obi
Worldphone SF1 (SF means San Francisco) is the higher-end phone from the crop;
this unibody device comes with metallic accents which is comparable to the
Xiaomi Mi3. The handset boasts a 5-inch Full HD IPS display which highlights
what the company called a “floating glass display.”
The Obi
Worldphone SF1 boots with Android 5.0.2 with Obi Lifespeed user interface on
top. The handset includes 13-megapixel Sony IMX214 rear sensor with f/2.0 aperture
and OptiZoom tech; the selfie camera comes with 5-megapixel sensor.
Talking
about internals, the SF1 harnesses the computing power of Qualcomm Snapdragon
615 chipset. There are two configurations of the handset which varies primarily
with RAM and native storage. The cheaper USD 200 (Php 9,300) packs 2GB of RAM
and 16GB internal memory; while the beefier variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage
has a USD 250 (Php 11,700) asking price.
The Obi
Worldphone SF1 boasts a Cat 4 LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi dual-band, Bluetooth 4.0
and NFC connectivity. There’s no word about the specific release date yet; in
