Cherry Mobile Excalibur is
definitely another "anchorage" device for the company in the
octa-core space. The device defines the right perspective of what an octa-core
handheld should be in the local tech scene. Of course, we have seen that kind
of spark with the previous Cherry Mobile Cosmos One. But in lieu of the latter’s
elusiveness, the current offing might ring some bells for those who are still
in the chase for the Cosmos One.
So what does Excalibur has
to do with the "Excalibur" tagline? In context, Excalibur is the name
of the great sword of King Arthur which, according to Wikipedia, possesses
magical powers and is associated with Great Britain's claim to freedom. I get
the point of choosing this moniker for the device - the local fruit company clearly
wanted it to become as iconic as the sword that we have accustomed to in novels
and cartoon series. And for sure, the name did not come in random.
Again, as most of you
might have known already, the Cherry Mobile Excalibur pierces with Corning
Gorilla Glass in both front and back panels. It may not be as big as the Cosmos
One with its 5-inch screen real estate but it could surely kick some ass with
its HD IPS display resolution.
The same 1.4-gigahertz MT6592M
octa-core CPU form MediaTek ticks inside the handset and is coupled with a Mali
450 MP4 GPU. In the memory department, the device is packed with a gig of RAM
and 8 gigabyte of built-in memory. The CM Excalibur hits 26434 in Antutu benchmark.
Other worth-mentioned
features are the 8-megapixel Sony IMX179 with BSI Sensor and LED flash and the
5-megapixel front camera. The device is short of LTE connectivity, however,
there's the HSPA+ functionality that could have a burstable speed that is
comparable to LTE technology.
The device is powered by 1980 mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. The Cherry Mobile Excalibur is a steal-buy with its Php 6,999 price tag. It will be available starting this weekend in selected CM kiosks nationwide.
