There was a time when buying a Windows laptop meant looking at Intel or AMD first. Those two names have been around for so long that it almost feels automatic. But things have changed.

The ASUS Vivobook S14 takes a different route with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X platform. On paper, that already makes it interesting. In actual use, though, what caught my attention isn't simply the processor. It's how ASUS put together a laptop that feels more focused on the things we actually do every day: work, write, browse, edit, join meetings, move around, and occasionally forget where we left the charger.
The ASUS Vivobook S14 S5408QA is also a Copilot+ PC, with a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU capable of up to 45 TOPS. It comes in a compact 14-inch chassis that weighs just 1.28kg, with a 50Wh battery and a full set of ports. After spending time with it, here are seven things that stood out to me.
1. It is ridiculously easy to carry around
The first thing you'll notice is not the Snapdragon X processor. It's the weight. At just 1.28kg, it is considerably light being a Vivobook laptop. I can actually throw it into my 20L backpack without thinking twice. The chassis measures as little as 1.49cm at its thinnest point, so it doesn't take up much space either.

For someone who moves between a desk, coffee shop, meetings and travel, this matters more than it sounds. A laptop can have all the horsepower in the world, but if it feels like you're carrying a small brick every time you leave the house, you'll eventually start leaving it behind.

That's where the Vivobook S14 gets it right. It's compact enough to become part of your everyday carry instead of something you only bring when you know you'll need it. And despite the slim profile, ASUS didn't go with a bare-bones port selection.

You get two USB-C ports with DisplayPort and Power Delivery support, two USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1 and a 3.5mm audio jack. That means you can still plug in your usual accessories without immediately reaching for a dongle. For a thin laptop, that's a big plus.
2. Snapdragon X changes the way you think about battery life
The Snapdragon X processor is probably the biggest talking point here. The S5408QA uses the Snapdragon X X1-26-100, an 8-core processor with a maximum clock speed of up to 2.97GHz. It also comes with Qualcomm's Adreno GPU and a Hexagon NPU capable of up to 45 TOPS.

For a laptop like this, raw benchmark numbers aren't the whole story. The real appeal of Snapdragon is efficiency. ASUS rates the Vivobook S14 for up to 30 hours of battery life under specific test conditions and pairs the 50Wh battery with a 68W USB-C power adapter. ASUS also claims the laptop can reach up to 60% charge in 49 minutes.
Of course, real-world battery life will depend on what you're doing. Video editing, high brightness, multiple peripherals and heavy workloads will always eat more battery than writing articles or browsing Chrome. Still, this is where the Snapdragon platform proves that it's one of the laptop's marquee features.
You get the performance needed for everyday productivity without constantly thinking about the nearest power outlet. For people who work outside the house, that's not a small convenience. That's freedom.
3. The 14-inch display hits a sweet spot
I've always liked 14-inch laptops because they sit right in the middle. 13-inch machines can feel cramped when you're working with multiple windows, while 15- or 16-inch laptops start becoming less convenient to carry.

The Vivobook S14 gives you a 14-inch 16:10 display with an 87% screen-to-body ratio. That 16:10 aspect ratio is especially useful for work.
You get a little more vertical space compared with a traditional 16:9 panel, which means more lines on a document, more of a webpage and more room for a timeline or spreadsheet before you have to start scrolling.
Depending on the configuration, ASUS offers the S5408QA with a WUXGA (1920x1200) IPS-level panel with a 45% NTSC gamut.

The 60Hz refresh rate isn't exactly aimed at hardcore gamers, but that's also not really the point of this machine. The Vivobook S14 is built more around productivity than gaming. And for that, the display gets the job done.
4. It has enough AI hardware to actually matter
AI is everywhere in laptop marketing these days. The problem is that some laptops talk about AI like it's a sticker you slap on the box. The Vivobook S14 at least has the hardware to back it up.

Its Snapdragon X platform includes a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU rated at up to 45 TOPS. That dedicated neural processing hardware handles compatible AI workloads without forcing the CPU and GPU to do all the heavy lifting. That's why the Vivobook S14 is a Copilot+ PC.

You also get access to Microsoft's AI features and compatible on-device AI experiences, while apps that support the NPU can take advantage of dedicated AI acceleration. For someone who works with content, this is where things get interesting.
Think about the number of times you search through files, clean up images, generate content ideas, summarize information or use AI-assisted features inside creative software. AI isn't replacing the workflow. It becomes another tool inside the workflow. That's a much more practical way to look at it.
5. The keyboard and touchpad are built for people who actually type
This sounds like a small thing until you spend several hours writing on a laptop. Then it becomes very important. The ASUS Vivobook S14 S5408QA has a backlit chiclet keyboard with 1.7mm key travel, along with a Precision touchpad. ASUS also gives the laptop a Copilot key for quick access to Microsoft's AI assistant.

For me, keyboard feel matters a lot when you're writing articles, answering emails, working on documents or editing scripts, you interact with the keyboard constantly. The larger ErgoSense touchpad is another nice touch. ASUS also adds gesture controls that can handle things such as volume, brightness and video timeline adjustments.
7. Laptop for everyday work
The Vivobook S14 is simply an all-around workhorse. It's built around the stuff that fills most people's working day. Like browser tabs, documents, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, video calls, social media, Canva, light photo work, content planning, file transfers, video editing within the limits of the hardware and compatible software, and more.

ASUS specifically positions the Vivobook S14 around productivity and creativity, with Snapdragon X efficiency and its 45 TOPS NPU at the center of the experience. The other important piece here is Windows on ARM. This is something potential buyers should understand.

Snapdragon laptops don't use the traditional x86 processor architecture found on most Intel and AMD Windows machines. Windows on ARM has come a long way, and ASUS says a large majority of everyday Windows app usage now has native support or can run through emulation.
Still, if your workflow depends on very specific legacy software, drivers, plug-ins or specialized applications, compatibility is worth checking before buying. For mainstream productivity and everyday creative work, however, the platform has become much more practical.
The Wrp
The ASUS Vivobook S14 S5408QA is an everyday laptop that does not need to scream for attention. And that's actually what I like about it.

The Snapdragon X platform brings a different approach to Windows laptops. Instead of chasing raw performance alone, ASUS focuses on efficiency, portability, AI acceleration and battery life. You get an 8-core Snapdragon X processor, up to 45 TOPS of NPU performance, a 14-inch 16:10 display, up to 16GB LPDDR5X memory, up to 512GB SSD storage in the listed Philippine configuration, a 50Wh battery and a 1.28kg metal chassis.

Put all of that together and you get a laptop that feels particularly well suited to people who spend a lot of time away from a desk. For me, that's the biggest selling point. A laptop should make it easier to work wherever you are.
The ASUS Vivobook S14 gets pretty close to that formula: light enough to carry everywhere, capable enough for everyday work, connected enough that you don't need a bag full of dongles, and efficient enough that the charger doesn't have to become your constant companion. Sometimes, less really is more.
The ASUS Vivobook S14 also comes with a bundle of extras that add more value to the package, including ASUS No. 1 Quality and Service, an ASUS Backpack, a lifetime Office Home 2024 license, one year of Microsoft 365 Basic with 100GB of cloud storage, up to 700GB of ASUS Cloud Storage, and a 3-month Google AI Pro Bundle.
