iOS 26.4 released: Expands Live Translation in Messages, New Emojis, Ambient Music Widgets

Apple released the iOS 26.4 update which expands "Live Translation in Messages" and "Hold Assist" to more global regions. This update integrates the "Freeform" app into "Apple Creator Studio" with new artificial intelligence tools for image editing. Users also gain access to new Health app features, music widgets, and emoji characters across all compatible devices. These changes improve the localized experience for English, Chinese, French, and Spanish speakers in several new countries.

Live Translation in Messages now supports more English-speaking regions like Australia and Canada. This feature automatically translates incoming texts into the user's preferred language through "Apple Intelligence". The expansion also includes support for Traditional Chinese in Hong Kong and Spanish in the United States and Mexico. Users in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Portugal can also use this tool for their local languages.

"Hold Assist" notifies users when a live agent joins a phone call after a long wait on hold. This specific feature now works for callers in New Zealand, South Africa, and Ireland. Support also extends to Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan and French in Canada. This tool helps users manage their time more efficiently during customer service interactions.

New "Ambient Music widgets" allow users to place curated playlists directly on their Home Screen. These widgets offer Sleep, Chill, Productivity, and Wellbeing tracks to match different activities. Users do not need a paid Apple Music subscription to access these background audio playlists. This addition provides a quick way to set the mood for daily tasks without extra costs.

"Freeform" joins "Apple Creator Studio" to provide enhanced creative tools for digital content. The new Content Hub offers high-quality photos, graphics, and illustrations for various projects. On-device AI models enable a "Super Resolution" feature to upscale low-quality images. Users can also use the "Auto Crop" tool to find better compositions for their photographs automatically.

Advanced image creation tools within "Freeform" use generative models from OpenAI to produce high-quality visuals with extra style options. In the Health app, a new "Sleep Highlight" feature compares the previous night's bedtime to a two-week average. This data helps users track their sleep patterns and maintain a consistent schedule over time. The system presents this information in a clear visual format for easier health monitoring.

Apple added eight brand new emoji characters to its platforms in this latest software release. These icons include an orca, a trombone, a landslide, and a ballet dancer. A distorted face emoji also joins the updated library for digital conversations and social media. These additions provide more ways for users to express themselves in messages.
