iPhone 16e now official with A18 Chip, Apple Intelligence, Face ID, Starts at Php 39,990

Apple has unveiled the iPhone 16e. The device features a notch-based design, the A18 chip from the iPhone 16, and Apple Intelligence support. Built on the iPhone 14 frame, it serves as an upgraded version of the iPhone SE while retaining a traditional notch for Face ID sensors and the front-facing camera.

iPhone 16e Design and Features

The iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch OLED display, making it the same size as the standard iPhone 16. With this change, Apple no longer offers a smaller model in its current lineup. Apple offers the iPhone 16e in two color options: black and white. It includes the Action Button, allowing users to set custom shortcuts. However, it does not come with the Camera Control button available on the main iPhone 16 lineup.

Apple has replaced the Lightning port with USB-C, aligning with new EU regulations that require all smartphones to adopt the universal charging standard. This change was widely expected as Apple transitions its entire product lineup to USB-C.

Apple Intelligence requires a minimum of 8GB of RAM, and the iPhone 16e is expected to meet this requirement. Apple has also discontinued the 64GB storage option, making 128GB the new base model.

iPhone 16e Camera

The iPhone 16e includes a single 48MP rear camera, unlike other iPhone models with multiple lenses. However, it retains wireless charging and water resistance, ensuring durability and convenience. It is also the first iPhone to feature an Apple-designed modem, marking the company’s shift away from Qualcomm’s hardware. Apple has been developing its own modem technology for years, and this device represents the first step in that transition.

Powered by the A18 chip, the iPhone 16e delivers the same performance as the regular iPhone 16. This enables Apple Intelligence features such as smart notifications and other AI-powered tools, which are unavailable on the iPhone 15 non-Pro models.

iPhone 16e Price and Availability in the Philippines

Apple has priced the iPhone 16e at $599, significantly higher than the $429 iPhone SE (2022). The increased cost comes with more storage, a modern design, and improved performance.

Locally, the iPhone 16e starts at Php 39,990 for the 128GB base unit. The 256GB variant is priced at Php 46,990, while the 512GB model comes with a Php 58,990 price tag. Philippine availability was not disclosed yet; we'll keep you posted, as usual.
