PLDT Home launches 'Fiber Always On' broadband service which intros a hybrid modem that seamlessly switches from fiber to LTE during downtimes. This ensures consumers of uninterrupted internet access. Capable of delivering speeds of up to 1 Gbps, the device features unlimited LTE backup, providing reliable performance even during unexpected disruptions.
“We call this ‘Always On’ In the event of a service interruption, you don’t need to worry about losing access to the internet. Even with a severed cable, you will stay connected and pursue your online activities with minimal interruption,” said Jeremiah de la Cruz, Senior Vice President and Head of Home Business Group at PLDT.
In the event of downtime, the Always On modem not only switches to LTE to maintain connectivity but also automatically files a service repair ticket. This eliminates the need for customers to manually report service interruptions, streamlining the repair process and enhancing user convenience.
The device and service will cost consumers Php 299 a month. PLDT is also looking into bundling it in other existing plans.
“We wanted to create a product that was responsive to the needs of our customers. We believe this will help elevate the internet standard in the country,” added de la Cruz.
After introducing Gigabit Fiber plans with speeds of up to 10Gbps, PLDT Home is doubling down on enhancing customer service, network reliability, and fostering stronger customer loyalty. The company’s customer retention rate in 2023 already exceeded the industry average, and it aims to build on that success.
PLDT has allocated between PHP 75 billion and PHP 78 billion for 2024 capital expenditures, focusing on mobile services, port rollouts, data centers, and submarine cable systems.
As of December 2023, PLDT Inc. boasts the Philippines' most extensive fiber infrastructure, spanning over 1.1 million kilometers of cable. This includes more than 0.2 million kilometers of international fiber and approximately 0.9 million kilometers of domestic fiber. This infrastructure also powers Smart’s nationwide mobile network, ensuring fast and reliable internet connectivity for both fixed and mobile users.
