And with Wi-Fi 6 being a much needed standard in today's wireless network technology, it's safe to say that there's a considerable demand for a mesh router that's capable of having Wi-Fi 6 speeds, at the same time offering efficiency and security. Good thing the TP-Link Deco X50 AX3000 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi 6 System brings these technologies that we need in our homes.
TP-Link Deco X50 Mesh WiFi 6 Router Review
Our households have multiple devices that connect to the internet and an increase in the number of devices means a decrease in performance and efficiency; Wi-Fi 6 addresses this issue. However, if you have bigger homes with thick walls and you wanted to have all the sections in your household (even in closed rooms) get stable access to your network, a mesh Wi-Fi system is ideal for you.
A mesh network is composed of multiple mesh units called Nodes that connect to each other in order to efficiently route data to and from the client or the user's device. The more Nodes in the network, the wider the network coverage. Data efficiency and performance is also directly proportional to number of nodes. In simple terms, the mesh topology is just expanding the wireless internet connectivity in your households or offices on top of improved speed and efficiency.
The TP-Link Deco X50 AX3000 Mesh Wi-Fi 6 Router comes in white box with teal accents. There's so much going on the face of the box as TP-Link printed the mesh router's specifications, key features, and more details on the sides of the box. Opening it, you will be greeted by cylindrical units of Deco X50, a flat LAN cable, quick installation guide, and power adapter for the respective packs.
The Deco X50 units come in a clean white hue that could suit well in most household design. On the top, it has its iconic sloped section giving the node a futuristic appeal. I loved that fact that the power bricks also come in white hues which matches the Deco units very well.
Underneath, there are elevated rubber pads to keep the unit from sliding on slippery surfaces; this is also a home to the reset slot and LED indicator. On the Deco X50's body, you'll find a series of ports - three (3) Gigabit Ethernet ports and a power slot - all aligned under the TP-Link logo.
How to Setup the TP-Link Deco X50 AX3000 Mesh Wi-Fi 6 Router System?
Just like any other mesh routers, setting up the TP-Link Deco X50 Mesh Router is just a walk in the park. We have a 2-pack Deco X50 units; this means that we'll have to setup one unit as our primary node and the other unit as our secondary node. Once you've unboxed the items, you need to install and open the TP-Link Deco app, and follow the straightforward instructions.
The app will ask you to connect to your modem with the Ethernet cable, and plug in your Deco unit to a power source. After a series of status checking, the app will let you connect to your Deco Wi-Fi and assign where you placed your Deco unit (e.g. bedroom, hallway, living room, office, study, etc.). You'll then be able to configure your Deco Wi-Fi network's name and password.
After a successful setup, you can just add another Deco unit by tapping the add icon on the upper right of your network's homescreen. The setup could be finished in less than 10 minutes.
In a quick glance, the Mesh Router is a powerful device which can support speeds up to 3000 Mbps; the 2-pack system can also cover up to 4500 square feet area. It is also compatible with Amazon Alexa virtual assistant, making the Deco X50 a great platform for those building their smart homes. These Deco units work together to form a unified network under a single network name - this is very convenient for the user to manage the network system.
Dubbed by the company as the "Wi-Fi Dead-Zone Killer", the Deco X50 enhances your network's coverage with clearer and stronger connectivity via Wi-Fi 6 standards; thus, there's no more roaming around the house searching for a stable connection. Its Mesh System is also AI Driven which automatically learns and improves performance based on your usage; this is due to its machine learning capability. If you have bigger houses, you'll have the option to add more Deco X50 units to compensate wider areas; it's worth noting that this unit is backward compatible to older Deco models.
On top of that, you can take advantage of the TP-Link HomeShield - a security service that keeps your home network safe with cutting-edge features for network and IoT protection. The service automatically detects cyber threats to keep both your network and devices safe. There's also a parental control feature wherein parents can manage the online time of their kids' devices, and even block non child-friendly sites.
Plus, you can set priority devices that would allow you to optimize and get better networking experience. And if it floats your boat, the Deco X50 gathers comprehensive statistics and insights of your home network system to help you manage your wireless network efficiently.
