Realme 5i Unboxing, First Impressions, Sample Photos: New Entry-Level Contender

Realme 5i Unboxing

Realme releases another smartphone off its popular 5 series - the Realme 5i. This handset is somewhat similar to the standard Realme 5 but it is dubbed to have a compelling price point. And we're here to unbox the handset; we'll also give our initial impressions and some sample photos of this entry-level contender.

The package comes in the traditional yellow and green hues which makes it even more compelling to younger demographics. Opening it we'll see the main unit, we have the Forest Green - a stunning choice for color configuration. I really like it. It's also available in Blue tone. But I prefer this Green one.

We also have the wall adapter and of course the micro USB cable. It makes sense that realme skipped the Type C cable for the 5i since this is an entry level offering.

Design

Design-wise, the Realme 5i is not to shabby when it comes to aesthetics. The Forest Green hue is very appealling to the eyes. The back panel reminds me of ASUS Zenfone's concentric-circle design only that the center is offsetted. This, in turn, gives the handset a matte-like finish - really feels good on the hands. You know, if I would see this on the wild, I wouldn't think that this is an entry-level smartphone.

Ports and buttons are still on their no-nonsense positions. The volume rocker are on the left side with the SIM tray. Realme 5i is generous enough to include a dedicated slot for the microSD card on top of the cradles for two SIMs.

The right side is a home to the power button, and the bottom part houses the 3.5-mm audio jack, the speaker grill and the microUSB port.

Just like the Realme 5, we still got the same 6.52-inch HD+ display. Realme 5i is marketing the handset to be the first quad-camera smartphone in its price segment with Electronic Image Stabilization. We still have the same set of rear camera sensors - 12MP main, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro and 2MP portrait.

It's still powered by the Snapdragon 665 which, to me, is a very efficient chipset for entry-level and even mid-range smartphones. It also ticks with ColorOS 6 with Android 9 Pie.

And of course, there's a juicy 5000 mAh battery with Reverse Charging! This means that it can function as a powerbank for your other devices! The handset will be available next week. Realme PH is yet to reveal the price but we are guessing it will draw a lot of potential buyers to the gray-and-yellow side. In the meantime, check out our unboxing video, sample photos and impressions above.
