Asus
released the Zenfone 2 in this year’s Consumer Electronics Show and grabbed
some lightning due to the fact that their latest handset got a lot of beef in
its internals. Aside from the speedy processor, the Asus Zenfone 2 packed a
whooping 4GB of RAM. And yes, it is the first of its kind.
Design and Display
When
it comes to construction, the Zenfone 2 does not differ to the previous
releases. However, the current handset has a striking resemblance to the LG G3 –
brushed metal finish with curved back (tapered towards the edges) and rear
volume keys below the camera unit.
In
terms of display, the newcomer comes with a 5.5-inch full HD 1080p display
framed in thin bezels of only 3.3 millimeters. The panel works with a capable
403 ppi pixel density. This made the device more immersive underneath the
Gorilla Glass 3 screen protection.
Internals
The
Zenfone 2 also has a massive kick when we talk of internals. It is mainly driven
by the 2.3-gigahertz Intel Atom Z3580 chipset which is, of course, a quad-core
processor. The (again) 4GB of RAM is also a muscle to reckon with in the phone’s
multitasking activities. You can have the Zenfone 2 in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB
configurations.
There’s
also a 2GB RAM/16GB ROM version of the device technically priced at USD 199
(approximately Php 9,000). Battery is rated with 3000 mAh, also with fast
charging tech which is common for flagship nowadays.
Camera
The
13-megapixel camera has f/2.0 and is capable of “pixel merging technology”
which, according to Asus, has 400 percent better light sensitivity and better
lowlight performance in both cameras. It is also accompanied by a True Tone
flash which obviously offers accurate colors and tones.
The
secondary camera is rated with 5-megapixel sensor. It has an 85 degree field of
view and can capture selfie-styled panoramas.
Software
The
Asus Zenfone 2 will have the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box with
the latest version of Zen UI skin on top. The latter allows you to change
themes, icons and fonts on your interface. Apps will also be updated instantly with
the Instant Update feature.
Price and Availability
Asus
stressed that Zenfone 2 will be available in the second quarter of this year.
You can choose between Osmium Black, Sheer Gold, Glamor Red, Glacier Gray and Ceramic
White hues. The price of the main variant has not been disclosed yet, however,
the company pointed out that the USD 199 (Php 9,000) price is only for the 2GB
RAM/ 16GB ROM version.
