PMG Weekly: NTC approves Smart-Sun merger, Smart headlines new logo

NTC approves Smart-Sun merger

National Telecommunications Commission approved Philippine Long Distance Company’s merger with the country’s fastest growing telco, Digitel Mobile Philippines (Sun Cellular) last Wednesday, October 26.

This is in line with the current application of PLDT to buy of 51.55% share, amounting to PHP 69.2 billion. The merger has been a buzz since March this year that rose up concerns of a considerable market dominance of the merger.
However, NTC stressed that the approval of the said acquisition comes with conditions that will protect the interest of the consumers.

Smart releases new corporate logo, website grabs consistency issues

In other news, Smart did a new makeover to its website with the update its new corporate logo. The logo serves as the header in the upper-left and all other elements were exactly the same. However, I have observed a certain inconsistency in the website.

I’m trying to check available phones for their postpaid deal and stumble upon HTC Sensation. The Postpaid page would tell you that it’s free for Unli Data Plan 3000.

I was disappointed because last time I checked the phone was free with Unli Data Plan 2000. But when I tried to dig up the Unlimited Data Plan page, I saw a bigger banner that it is free for Plan 2000; which confirms that it was not just right when I checked the phone last week.

I think Smart peeps would fix this, and our hopes are high that HTC Sensation is still in Plan 2000
