Samsung Galaxy Y is coming to SMART via Netphone

All the heads turn to Smart Communications as it adds the Samsung Galaxy Y for its Netphone line-up. Samsung Galaxy Y has been announced last August as an entry-level Android phone, infused with Gingerbread (Android 2.3); and Smart will bring its market debut here in the Philippines for only PHP 5990 as prepaid kit.

Apart from the previous brand in the line (ZTE Blade), Smart will retain the name of Samsung in the handsets, which could be part of the deal with Sammy. Good choice. Who would choose to have a “Netphone” stamped right at the upper panel of their phones instead of “Samsung”? Sam Pinto, I guess.

Seriously, this is a great deal for everyone who would want to try Android. The handset itself is convincing enough for the price, which is somewhat of a smaller Galaxy Ace and a domesticated (sorry for the term) Galaxy Mini S5570. To persuade you more, here is the set of specs:

Samsung Galaxy Y (Smart Netphone)

3.0″ TFT LCD capacitive display @ 240×320 pixels
823MHz ARMv6 processor
256MB RAM
164MB internal storage
up to 32GB via microSD
3G/HSDPA 7.2 Mbps
Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
2MP camera
FM Radio tuner
GPS w/ aGPS support
Li-Ion battery 1200mAh
TouchWiz 3.0
Android 2.3 Gingerbread

I will say it again, this is a great deal. But I don’t think this could be appealing if you’re into taking pictures and the 240x320 px resolution keeps on bothering me, the Nephone 701 had a fair one. Maybe it’s because to the previous’ 3.5” LCD screen.

So you can pre-order from Smart here. It’s free on Data Lite Plan 500 and PHP 5990 on pre-paid. I am thinking of having one, but I think I’ll have to wait because the possibility of Smart bringing better phones is on high bars! Samsung Galaxy W (wonder) please!
