Cherry Mobile Alpha Shift Specs Review: Windows 8.1 Laptop-Tablet Hybrid

Cherry Mobile refreshes its Windows-based series with Alpha Shift. As the name implies, the device gives the right blend of flexibility in terms of shifting from being a full-fledged laptop to a mobile slate. The new Alpha has a lot to offer in the table in terms of specs and features which you will if take a good reading below.

The Alpha Series

Before we tackle the Alpha Shift, we need to go down the memory lane first. The Cherry Mobile Alpha Series was introduced last September in the company's WOW (We're On Windows) event. The line spawned two Windows-powered smartphones - the entry-level Alpha Style dubbed as the cheapest WP handset and the 5-incher Alpha Luxe.

The event was also graced by two power-packed tablets, the Alpha Play and the Alpha Morph. The latter is a tablet with a dedicated keyboard for "Morphing" the slate's mobility into productivity, and vice versa. However, the Alpha Shift crosses the border line of the tablet platform as it poses itself as a Laptop-Tablet hybrid.

Why buy the Cherry Mobile Alpha Shift?

It is the first locally-branded device to pull off a "hybrid" stunt. As Cherry Mobile described it, the device is a 2-in-1 runner that could function as laptop and a slate.

The Hardware

The Alpha Shift's innards boast a lot of guts. It is powered by an Intel Atom Z3735F with quad-core processor, each clocked at 1.33-gigahertz speed. The chipset is defined by 64-bit desktop-class architecture which is pretty common nowadays.

To set the record straight, the Shift is different from the Morph and the Play since it is considered to be a full-sized productivity device. Everything you can do in your normal laptop running on Windows ecosystem could also be done here.

The Software

Since it runs with the latest Windows 8.1, you could do all your tasks in both desktop view and Metro view. Apps can be pulled-up through the Start Screen and you can also customize the live tiles in your Metro interface. On the desktop mode, you can do all the productivity stuff - Microsoft Office, Browsing, etc.

Plus, it is also worth mentioning that the slate is upgradable to the new Windows 10 OS once the global roll out has been switch on by the Microsoft.

Memory and Connectivity

You'll have a beefy 500GB HDD, 2GB of RAM and a 32GB internal memory. Likewise, several standard ports are also included like the USD 2.0, micro USD and HDMI. Of course, there's WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and the 1.2-megapixel front camera.

You can get the Cherry Mobile Alpha Shift at Php 15,500. Lazada is also offering it at a discounted price of Php 14,499.
